UnityPoint Health – Trinity hospitals offer amazing student experiences and educational opportunities for individuals interested in healthcare careers. Whether you're looking for clinical or non-clinical offerings, we provide them in several hospitals and clinics throughout the Quad Cities area, including Bettendorf, Moline, Muscatine and Rock Island. Explore our offerings below.

Types of Student Experiences

Job Shadow
We understand the value of job shadowing as part of the career exploration process and the importance of helping students gain useful information as to the types of skills and education required for careers within the medical industry.

In many instances, job shadow experiences are 1-12 hours in length and are set-up directly between the student or individual and the provider or clinician. If you have difficulty locating the appropriate contact information for a provider or clinician in the field you are interested in, please contact our Student Program Coordinator at Yvette.Work@unitypoint.org for assistance.

Once a provider or clinician has agreed to oversee your job shadow experience, onboarding materials will be sent to you via email for completion. These onboarding documents must be returned at least 10 days prior to your desired job shadow experience.

Note: Job shadowing does not meet the requirements for programs that require clinical contact hours, internship hours, or volunteer and community service hours.

If you are interested in becoming a volunteer, learn more here.
Nursing Clinical Rotations
At Trinity, we understand the role nursing clinical rotations have in ensuring the best outcome for students, and we take pride in the supervised learning environments our facilities offer. We strive to provide each student with a positive rotation where they can implement the lessons they have learned in the classroom while gaining valuable hands-on experience.

Nursing clinical rotations allow unit or floor access to groups of nursing students who are accompanied by one or more faculty members and are arranged between our student program coordinator and the students' academic institution. They occur at regular intervals throughout the semester and require an affiliation agreement between Trinity and the school. Onboarding materials will be emailed to students and faculty members 60-90 days prior to the scheduled rotation, and these documents must be returned no less than 30 days prior to the desired start date.

To find out if your college is a partner, contact Yvette.Work@unitypoint.org.
Preceptorship (clinical)
Preceptorships are one-on-one clinical rotations that are arranged directly between the school or student and the unit or preceptor, with supervision of the experience being the responsibility of a Trinity clinician or employee. They vary in length and range from one to two weeks up to several months depending on the program and course requirement. They can occur within the same semester or carry over to multiple semesters and require an affiliation agreement between Trinity and the school. Areas include pharmacy, public health, radiology, sonography and many other opportunities. If you are interested in a preceptorship and are having difficulties locating the appropriate contact information for a provider or clinician in the field you are interested in, please reach out to our Student Program Coordinator at Yvette.Work@unitypoint.org for assistance.

Onboarding materials will be emailed to students 60-90 days prior to the scheduled rotation, and these documents must be returned no less than 30 days prior to the desired start date.
Internship - non-clinical
In addition to the clinical experiences described above, Trinity offers non-clinical based experiences in various fields, including but not limited to: accounting, marketing, informatics and leadership. Arrangements are made between our student program coordinator (Yvette.Work@unitypoint.org) and the students' academic institution (or the student) and can vary in length depending on the program and course requirement.

NOTE: An affiliation agreement between Trinity and the school will be required before an internship can begin.

Similar to clinical rotations, onboarding materials are required of internship participants and will be emailed to students 60-90 days prior to the scheduled experience. These documents must be returned no less than 30 days prior to the desired start date.
