Mental Health Hospital Services

Hospital Services

There are occasions when our best recommendation and course of action for a person's mental health is to admit them to the hospital for more focused, intensive treatment. For those situations, St. Luke's has three units dedicated to mental health treatment - for children and adolescents, adults and older adult patients.

Child/Adolescent Unit
This secure center provides treatment for children (ages 6-12) and adolescents (ages 13-18). Both programs are family-centered and designed to help children and adolescents who have serious behavioral problems, emotional disorders or adjustment difficulties. Our focus is to empower families, manage behavior and teach new skills.

Adult Unit
This secure unit provides a highly structured and protective environment for adult patients suffering from acute emotional crisis and who require frequent monitoring and supportive attention.

Older Adult Unit
This secure center creates a highly structured, protective environment for older adults who are experiencing either acute episodes of mental illness or dementia.

Partial Hospitalization

St. Luke's partial hospitalization program provides day services for patients with emotional difficulties and/or mental illnesses. It's designed to help with the transition from the hospital to home, or to avoid hospitalization altogether. Individuals learn how to deal with problems by solving them together in groups, practicing their plan of action through role-playing, going home to follow through and returning the next day to share their success or make a new plan of action.

Some of the group settings individuals participate in include:

  • Group therapy
  • Goal setting group
  • Coping skills group
  • Assertiveness group
  • Leisure education group
  • Weekend planning and weekend groups

In addition, our visiting nurse program allows individuals with emotional problems and/or mental illness to live successfully within the community with the help of home and/or community-based visitation by qualified nursing staff. To make a referral please call (319) 369-8176.

Women's Health

Birth Care

For women, and men too, breast and bone health are major factors in your overall health. St. Luke's Breast and Bone Health is dedicated to providing you with professional, personalized care for all your breast and bone health needs.

Osteoporosis

Individuals with osteoporosis have a higher risk of fractures of the hip, vertebrae and wrist, among others health factors. At St. Luke's, we believe it's important for women to understand their risk for osteoporosis and what can be done to prevent or slow the process of this disease.

It is estimated that 10 million people in the U.S. (including 8 million women) have osteoporosis. What's more, almost 34 million more are estimated to have low bone mass, placing them at increased risk for osteoporosis and fractures. Individuals with osteoporosis have a higher risk of fractures of the hip, vertebrae and wrist, among others health factors. At St. Luke's, we believe it's important for women to understand their risk for osteoporosis and what can be done to prevent or slow the process of this disease.

DXA Bone Density Screening is the industry gold standard for bone density testing. It is used to detect osteoporosis and other bone disorders. The information the screening provides helps you and your doctor make effective decisions about preventative steps and treatment options. St. Luke's offers DXA Bone Density Screenings at their office at PCI Medical Pavilion and also at their Marion Campus.
