Language Services
UnityPoint Health provides interpretation services for patients, their companions and employees, when identified by a team member or upon request. These services offer a variety of languages including American Sign Language at no cost. It is our intent to provide equal access to, and equal participation in, health care treatment and education for persons with hearing, vision, language, speech, or cognitive impairments, and for persons with Limited English Proficiency (LEP).
Non-English Language and American Sign Language Interpreting
UnityPoint Health offers video, audio, phone and in-person interpreting services for Limited English Proficiency (LEP) and Deaf patients. We will provide all the necessary equipment and make all arrangements when needed.
Requesting an Interpreter
Patients and/or companions are able to request an interpreter by contacting a team member for assistance.
Communication Devices & Equipment (Auxiliary Aids)
To ensure effective communication with patients and their companions, we provide auxiliary aids and services free of charge, such as: TTYs, large print materials, telephone handset amplifiers, audio recordings, PockeTalkers (amplifier), telephones compatible with hearing aids, and open and closed captioning of most programs. To request use of any of these devices, contact a UPH team member for assistance.
