Support Our Tiniest Patients

The Variety Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at Blank Children's Hospital is dedicated to providing high-quality, family-centered care for premature and critically-ill newborns. We offer private rooms that can accommodate 44 beds and are a Regional Level IIIB unit offering the latest in technology. We have been pioneering care for newborns since the unit opened in 1972. In 2001, we were one of the first units in the world to offer private-room care, and since that time, many NICUs across the country have followed our model.

Bringing Patients Joy

Hospital visits and stays can cause increased stress and anxiety for children and their families. To help ease their nerves, Blank Children's Hospital has a team of certified Child Life specialists ready to help our youngest patients. Certified Child Life specialists have college degrees in areas similar to child development, psychology, education or therapeutic recreation. Your Child Life specialist combines play with education to explain medical procedures and provide therapeutic opportunities to explore the hospital environment.
