Family-Centered Care

Rooming-In With Support

We encourage your birth partner and your baby's siblings to bond with your baby in your comfortable, private room. Your nurse will include family members in discussions or issues concerning the birth of your baby with your permission. After you give birth, your nurse will teach you various types of baby care, including:

  • Feeding
  • Cord care
  • Circumcision care
  • Bathing
  • Soothing techniques
  • Newborn characteristics
Comfort and Convenience
To make your experience easier and safer, you'll move through check-in and into your private room as quickly as possible. At Trinity Birth Center, you and your family spend the first days with your baby in a private room. We know you want to spend time alone with your baby, so our postpartum team keeps interruptions to a minimum but is always available if you need assistance. We'll make sure you have quality care with as few interruptions as possible.

What's Available at Trinity?

Birth Plan Choice

We work with you and your OB during your pregnancy. Together, we plan for a low-intervention delivery. You can start making your birth plan now.

  • Support from a nurse for a more personal and natural approach to labor and delivery.
  • Options such as breathing techniques, counter pressure and ambulation position changes to manage contractions and discomfort naturally.
  • Birthing balls and wireless fetal monitors to let you move around during labor.
Breastfeeding

A lactation specialist is available to help make sure breastfeeding is going well and help work out any concerns. If you choose not to breastfeed, we'll help you set up a healthy feeding plan for your baby. This support gives you the preparation to care for your newborn at home.

Expert Care
A Blank Children's Hospitalist and nurses will monitor you and baby during your stay. The Blank Children's provider will also give the baby his or her first exam. Your nurse will do assessments, including:
  • Initial assessment and exam
  • Reflexes
  • Daily weight check
  • Feedings
  • Wet and soiled diapers
  • Jaundice
Level II Special Care Nursery
Sometimes babies need extra care when they are born; Trinity Birth Center offers that special care in partnership with Blank Children's Hospital. Babies who can need medical treatment, will spend time in our Level II special care nursery where they can be continuously monitored. Our Level II nursery can provide breathing support for babies that are having respiratory difficulties. They may be given an IV drip for fluids and/or medications. Additionally, we are able to help newborns who are experiencing difficulty sucking and need help getting nourishment by giving them breast milk or formula through a nasogastric (NG) tube.
Assistance After Birth

We provide support into your "fourth trimester." Women go through a lot of emotional, physical and hormonal changes when having a baby. Being a new mom is difficult and comes with a lot of different emotions. Now, more than ever, it is important to take care of yourself. If you have been feeling down, anxious or overwhelmed, we have partnered with Berryhill Center to provide you with additional support.

We have a licensed mental health therapist with specialized training in perinatal mental health who provides appointments at UnityPoint Clinic OB/GYN - Fort Dodge. Call (515) 574-6870 to schedule an appointment.
